Our worlds have become so big. The addition of media in our lives has expanded what we see as possible on this big blue planet. As a kid, I was fascinated when I saw a TV show and it was bright, but looking outside, it was already evening. Reading a book and becoming part of another world is still my favourite type of magic. When I learned about time zones, it obviously blew my mind, and then, much later, when cellphones became a thing – I was hooked! It became possible to talk to someone in another place; it was possible to learn about things school would never teach me. We are all masters in random things that only we and a few friends care about, and that is all because of a world where we have become connected.

Yet this very connectedness creates people who are lonely. People who sit in restaurants, around a table with friends, actively typing and swiping the night away. Walking through landscapes with a loved one next to them, with ear pods, giving running commentary on a world their partner is excluded from.

We are often trapped in our own heads, maneuvering the guardrails and fences of our own minds and belief systems.

One lonely planet between eight billion others.

We hope that this week’s episode lets you pause and reflect for a moment. That you get the chance to consider the connections that are real: the people and places that make us human.

May you reach beyond the place in your head and become part of humanity again – greater than any technological tool.
