Most humans enjoy a change. We like visiting a new place for an annual break, and many are forever scanning a menu looking for something they have never tried before. A new show on TV catches our eye, and most people struggle to walk past a pair of shoes at their favourite clothing store.

We praise ourselves as people who are always "ready for a new challenge" and "excited to begin a new chapter".

However, what do you do if the new challenge, new chapter, new career, or new life was never in the long-term plan? What if you join an online meeting expecting updates on current workflows, only to hear that the place you called a home away from home will not exist any longer?

This was the reality for Mariette Snyman. While attending her (then) first online meeting on Zoom, she learned that the beloved magazine she had been part of for many moons was closing down during The Crazy we remember as 2020. The rug was swept from under her feet, and in a matter of weeks, she had to reinvent who she was.

Not as a 16-year-old, or a woman in her early thirties, but as a woman with many years of experience in a specific career, now unemployed and not ready to call it quits.

The story of how this phenomenal woman reinvented what her life should look like during the second half of her life is inspiring, exciting, and absolutely magnificent. Through her work as a podcaster and journalist, she is bringing content, connection, and valuable teachings to the inboxes and feeds of people all over the world.

Her crisis turned into a blessing, not only for her but for a community of people she was yet to meet.
